This is the part of Orbit we care about most. Here is everything that happens, in order, from the moment somebody presses the button.

Stage One

The Alarm

One-Tap SOSFrom the map, the menu, or the Apple Watch. Free on every plan, never capped.
Live Location AttachedThe alert carries where they are right now, not where they were when the app last checked.
Crash DetectionA flashing red countdown. Cancel it if you're fine; ignore it and the whole chain runs by itself.
Heart-Rate Auto-SOS BackstopA sustained breach of a safe range can raise the SOS on its own when nobody acknowledges the alert.
Every Member Pushed At OnceNot a nominated contact — everybody in the Nest, immediately.
Origin RecordedEvery emergency records where it came from — phone, watch, crash, health rule — so nothing is ever a mystery afterwards.
Stage Two

The Escalation — Real Texts, Real Calls

When a push notification is not enough, Orbit picks up the phone. Life360 also reaches contacts by phone, via a third-party dispatch centre on its paid tiers in five countries; Orbit calls your own people directly, to any number in any country, and shows you the delivery log afterwards.

SMS To Every Contact, In ParallelAll numbers at once, each message tracked individually so one bad number cannot swallow the alert.
A Voice Call ChainReal calls, placed one number at a time, in the priority order you set.
Answering-Machine DetectionVoicemail is not "reached". If a machine picks up, Orbit moves to the next number.
Escalates On No-Answer, Busy Or FailureThe chain keeps walking until a human being actually answers, or the list is exhausted.
Per-Recipient Delivery LogMenu › Safety › SOS Call & Text Delivery Status: every message and call, with its final outcome.
International NumbersContacts do not have to live in your country for the chain to reach them.

Stage Three

The Room — Where It Gets Managed

An SOS opens a working space, pre-loaded with everything a responder would otherwise have to ask for. The summary line at the top is written by Orbit, not by a person, and the What We Know panel under it is live — incident type, who is responding, last known location, battery, and their latest heart rate, blood oxygen, blood pressure and glucose.

AI Summary, Pinned To The TopA plain-language brief of what is happening, written automatically so somebody arriving late gets the gist in one line.
Medical ID Posted AutomaticallyBlood type, allergies, conditions, current medications, organ-donor status and notes.
Past-Emergency History As A PDFThe full conversations from their last five emergencies, attached to the room without anybody asking.
Live Vitals AlongsideHeart rate and recent readings sit next to the conversation, so you can see the direction of travel.
Medication ListNames, doses and schedules travel with the emergency instead of living in somebody's memory.
Watchers & RespondersSee who is reading and who has said they are coming — so two people don't duplicate and a third doesn't assume.
Group Chat, Not DMsOne thread for the incident, so the whole family shares the same picture.
Apple Wallet Medical CardReadable by a stranger or a paramedic without unlocking the phone.
Stage Four

The Resolution, And The Record

While it is live, everyone in the Nest carries the same banner — Your SOS Is Active · Help is on the way — and the person who raised it ends the whole thing with one tap on I'm Safe.

Marked SafeOne tap ends it for everybody, with a celebration screen so nobody is left wondering.
Resolve On Someone's BehalfIf the person can't close it themselves, a responder can — after a safe interval, never instantly.
Past EmergenciesEvery incident kept as a readable record: who responded, what was said, how it ended.
Call & SMS LogsThe delivery record for each incident, kept alongside the conversation.
Included In Your Data ExportThe full emergency history is part of Download My Data.
Duplicate-Fire ProtectionEach alert is claimed once on our servers, so a family never gets the same emergency four times.
Orbit is not a medical device and does not contact emergency services. The escalation chain reaches the emergency contacts you chose. In a real emergency, call your local emergency number first.
